Wellpoint and IBM sign an agreement for use the supercomputer Watson for medical applications.

IBM has signed an agreement with WellPoint will enable the insurer to use supercomputer technology to suggest the diagnosis Watson and possible treatments to their patients. This is the first time that it uses the knowledge of the world's smartest computer as a commercial application, although financial terms were not disclosed.

IBM technology will improve life quality and medical services quality, and it will reduce costs.The project will be presented next year and the beginning  will be used by nurses that check treatments in dificult cases.

IBM claims that Watson can process about 200 million pages of content in less than three seconds, which certainly makes it a valuable system in reviewing the medical literature.

This system aims to provide this service to physicians who treat chronic diseases, they plan to build an application through which patients can seek own health information.
