Telemedicine used for geriatric research at Getafe Hospital.

As reported by the Goverment of Madrid, today. The study aims to assess the usefulness of some of the clinical and functional markers, and determine the effectiveness and efficiency of this type of monitoring to improve control and monitoring of elderly patients with heart failure .

Telemedicine devices have been distributed to selected twelve patients that connect via Bluetooth to a mobile phone.

Through these devices the patients themselves are responsible for measuring every 48 hours for certain variables such as oxygen saturation, blood glucose, blood pressure, an electrocardiogram or respiratory rate. Also measure the speed of travel, the time it takes to rise from a chair, weight and temperature, and answer a simple questionnaire about their health status and evolution.

The mobile phone contains information which is stored in a computer program so that the doctor daily consultation results and, in case any alteration, telephone contact with the patient or go to visit him immediately.

This system also allows to have a history very accurate and complete report on the patient's progress and usefulness of long-term treatment.
